Mental Health

Companion Pieces

To encourage bystander intervention among college students and to support mental health initiatives, I created print materials that foster open dialogue. These materials provide users with actionable steps to support their peers. I chose to reach students through striking colors and simple information. The materials work in the sense that the poster can catch people's attention quickly and at a glance, while the brochure gives users a more in-depth experience.

Visual Inspiration

The visual inspiration for this project came from vintage propaganda posters from the United States and Russia. I was drawn to these posters because of their captivating visuals and strong call to action. I wanted to incorporate the strong diagonals that these posters often showcased. I included these elements to capture college students' attention and encourage them to take action by starting a conversation.

User Consideration

When designing materials with such strong calls to action I needed to ensure that my audience, college students, would be able to relate and feel welcome to participate in the movement. To do this I combined vintage abstract elements with text message motifs that strongly link to Gen Z. Providing people with concise information and steps that are as simple as possible makes the experience feel less overwhelming. I also wanted to include a brochure with this poster to ensure that users would have an element of physical interaction to make them feel integrated with the materials.

This project required balancing strong calls to action with a tone that feels welcoming. By blending styles, I created materials that feel both bold and familiar. The outcome captures attention and inspires students to step up and support one another.
